In her little window nook, Amelia the dove,
Finds — oh, just look! — an egg, left behind, left all alone!
A stir, a panic fills the air all through The Land of Coo:
'Whose egg is this?'
'Why left behind?...'
'Why all alone…without a mate at all?'
'How strange!' They coo, and coo, all worried and blue.
What shall they do?

If they take it in and care for it right, what will the future bring to light?

In a lively dovecote, a solitary egg brings confusion and curiosity to the local pigeon community, for as everyone knows, pigeons always lay two eggs. No one knows where it came from, or why it was left alone, but the Dove Council decides that every egg deserves a chance!

So, as Christian, the little dovey, grows up within the close-knit community of the dovecote, he is surrounded by the love of his “aunt” Amelia and the gentle guidance of Chairman Old Dusty Brown.

Yet, while he longs to find his own place, the path is not always easy.

When a lost baby swallow needs his help, Christian sets off on a daring adventure, showing the power of courage and compassion. Along the journey, unexpected bonds are formed, and true happiness is discovered.

Through lighthearted verses, this story for children aged 4 to 7 approaches with humor, simplicity, and tenderness some difficult and complex themes, such as single-parent families, adoption, diversity, and prejudice. As the story unfolds, the children realize that when love is shared, it multiplies and finds its reflection. They learn to show solidarity and, above all, to find the courage to be themselves.
A children's story reminding us all that no one is ever truly alone. Love exists and finds its way to everyone.

As the famous Dr. Rosy-Cheeked once said:
We all know this, none
Across the earth, beneath the sky:
No matter how far we fly or roam,
Love will always guide us home.
A story in verse, for children aged 4 to 7.
